What is sandblasting?

Sandblasting, also known as abrasive blasting or media blasting, is a surface finishing procedure using compressed air and an abrasive substance, or media, to spray particles at high velocity through a nozzle against a surface.

Do you sandblast?

We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal. All transactions are secure.

What surfaces does Blast Tech blast?

Blast Tech works with metals, plastics, glass, stone, concrete, acrylic, fiberglass, and more.

What type of blast media do you use?

Blast Tech uses various grades of “sand” (Starblast and various garnet blends), plastic beads, and soda depending on project requirements. Blast Tech determines which media to use depending on the coating(s) to be removed, and what material the project is made of.

Do you offer mobile blasting?

No. All of our blasting services are performed at our Englewood facility in our three large blast booths.

Does Blast Tech provide free estimates?

Yes! For some projects we can provide an estimate over the phone, for others we may need photos or to have you bring your project in for an estimate or test blast. Call (303) 806-9992 to discuss your specific project.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Blast Tech prefers cash or checks, but also accepts all major credit cards. Payment is expected upon project pick up.
Blast Tech includes a 2.5% fee for credit card payments charged at Blast Tech or a 3.5% fee for credit card payments made over the phone.

What blast media removes rust?

Sand blends remove rust, corrosion, and debris. The type of sand we use depends on the item being blasted.

What media removes paint and powder coat?

Depending on the item being blasted, Blast Tech may use sand blends, plastic beads, or soda to remove paint or powder coating. Some aluminum or alloy parts receive a chemical stripping pre-treatment to speed the removal of powder coat and reduce cost to our customers.

Can sand blasting warp or damage my parts?

When performed incorrectly, blasting can warp metal and other materials. With over 50-years’ experience, our blasters know which pieces are most susceptible to damage. If we determine there is a risk of warping or damage, we notify our customer and consult with them about them using alternatives to blasting.

What condition do my parts need to be in to have them blasted?

Blast Tech requests that parts be reasonably well cleaned of oil and grease, which can contaminate our blast booths and dust collection system. If Blast Tech needs to remove oil or grease before we blast, a project preparation charge will be added.

Can you blast the exterior or underside of a driving car without harming the interior, engine compartment, or glass?

Yes. We will mask and protect all seams to the interior and engine bay, and any glass, before blasting. A project preparation charge will be added for shop time and materials.

Can you protect my automotive window glass, so it does not get blasted?

Yes, Blast Tech can protect window glass. A project preparation charge will be added for shop time and materials.

Do you work with newly manufactured or fabricated metal?

Yes! Blast Tech has manufacturing and fabricating customers that regularly bring us their new unfinished metal projects.

Can you blast items made of fiberglass or plastic?

Yes. We apply our skill, experience, and the right media choice, to safely remove paint from fiberglass and plastic parts. Blast Tech is among the few abrasive blasters in Colorado that can safely blast the delicate fiberglass bodies of Corvettes.

Does Blast Tech powder coat, paint, or prime?

No. Blast Tech does not apply coatings of any kind. We specialize in preparing surfaces with the appropriate adhesion profile to receive a protective coating like paint, powder coat, clear coat, anodizing, Cerakote or plating. Blast Tech refers customers to powder coaters, auto painters, and others we work with.

Do I need to apply a protective coating to my project after it has been blasted?

Yes! Blast Tech restores metal and other surfaces to their unfinished bare state. Surfaces then need coating protection to protect them from moisture and humidity.

How experienced are your blast technicians?

Our blast technicians have over forty years’ combined experience working with us and our auto restoration customers always tell us that they are the best in the business!

Do you do chemical stripping?

Yes, Blast Tech has a chemical stripping tank available for appropriate projects.

What types of items are appropriate for chemical stripping?

Blast Tech’s chemical stripping tank works to soften or remove powder coating from aluminum or other alloy parts including industrial parts, brake calipers, alloy wheels, motorcycle hubs, and alloy bicycle frames.

How fast can you turn my project around?

Blast Tech likes fast turns for our customers. We typically have smaller parts ready within a few days, and full cars/trucks within about a week. We will make an effort to meet your deadline and will let you know when we expect your project to be completed.

How does Blast Tech charge?

Blast Tech charges by blasting time, with additional preparation charges if any extensive masking protection or degreasing is needed. Blast time varies by project, underlying surface, media type, geometry, condition, and coating(s).

Does Blast Tech have a minimum charge?

Blast Tech has a $50 minimum charge.

Does Blast Tech charge for storage?

Blast Tech has limited space to store completed projects. We call customers as soon as their projects are completed, and request prompt payment/pick up within three business days of notification to avoid a $25/day storage fee.
